Review: THE FOODERY, fresh, healthy meals delivered to your door

WOW!! What a crazy few days here in Boston with the Blizzard of 2013.

For someone who was alive and remembers the Blizzard of 1978, this just wasn’t the same.
I mean, the whole thing with 1978 is that we were totally unprepared.  Cars had to be abandoned on the road, people where snowed in  literally for days/weeks.  Businesses and schools were closed for weeks and grocery stores ran out of food.
As I look out the window of the studio today.  Most of the main roads are pretty clear. The sidewalks not so much but they could be worse.  Businesses are open and there is plenty of food at the store.

Speaking of Food.
One of the biggest challenges many of us have is time.  Eating well takes time, forethought and preparation.   These tasks often taking a back seat to the conflicting priorities and demands of our lives.   Citing lack of time and energy, we reach for food that is quick and easy but in most cases not the most efficacious for achieving our goals or even ensuring optimal health and nutrition.

“Failure to Plan, Is PLANNING to FAIL”

Every day I hear “I just don’t have time to do all that prep and cooking”, “I eat out, order out all the time, I just don’t have time”.

Enter The Foodery.   The brain child of two former financial service professionals who came to the realization that the so called “nutritious” foods that they grew up believing were good for them weren’t.  In fact, they discovered that a vast proportion of food served up to us as “healthy” and “nutritious” not only isn’t but is also produced in a way that bares no consideration for the environment or welfare of the animals in question.
Frustrated with the time it took to eat the way they wanted and not being able to find a convenient alternative, they concluded that there was a real need in the market for nutritious, pre-made meals that were made with the finest ingredients that would promote health while being environmentally sustainable.  Thus The Foodery was born.

In a nutshell, you simply go to www.myfoodery.com. Check out the weekly menu. (the menu changes weekly) place your order by Thursday and the food is delivered to your home between 6pm-9pm Sunday evening.

It can’t be easier than that.

Now let me put this right out there.  This isn’t take out.  This isn’t, come home Monday night, I’m hungry I’ll order out.  It still takes some forethought and planning.

There is a minimum order requirement of 4 meals but they don’t have to be different.  You could order 4 of one thing if you like.  All meals are 550 calories.  For some people this may be too much food, but they can easily be split in ½ OR buy 2 of the same thing and split into 1/3ds.  In addition, there is no rule that says you can’t make a salad or through some frozen veggies in the microwave if you want to add some volume to your meal.

Cost:
Meals cost $23/meal.  About what you would pay for an entrée in a decent restaurant. So not an inexpensive option but for those people who tend to order out or go out a lot it could end up being more economical by the time you pay for extras, tax, tip, alcohol etc.
The only additional charge you may incur is a delivery charge if you are not located in their regular deliver area.  Tipping is not allowed.

Delivery:
The Foodery delivers to your home, or wherever you want them to deliver provided there is someone there to receive the order between 6-9pm Sunday evening.
In fact, for those of you who are medical professionals and work Sunday nights.  As long as the hospital is within route 95 they will deliver to the hospital.  But double check with them just to be sure.
Once you place your order, you receive a confirmation informing you that they will send you a text on Sunday when they are close to delivering your food.  I actually received a phone call when they were about 20 minutes out.

Food:
So what about the food?  Well the food is excellent.  The guys at The Foodery graciously sent me a food bundle which included the Shrimp Veggie Pizza and the Turkey Pesto Panini with Gazpacho.
Not only is the food YUMMY!! But was beautifully prepared and fresh.    Each meal came in a recyclable/reusable plastic container.  Each entrée is clearly labeled with ingredients, macro-nutrient breakdown and specific heating instructions.

All in all I give the Foodery a big 10 out of 10.
I for one am looking forward to placing my next order.
And please, if you decide to give them a try make sure you tell them I sent you.
